What I Like About Me!

Who can forget this song by the Romantics? It's been rattling around in my head on and off for about a month. I can't imagine that the band members had any clue this hit would be around nearly 40 years later and still be used in commercials, at sporting events, at wedding dances, and at karaoke nights. So why am I changing the title? Well, in my experience coaching business owners and executives, there's a tendency for people to be their own worst critics. Constantly beating themselves up and tearing themselves down. That bad habit chips away at our attitude and can become a detriment to our performance. We all could spend some time reflecting on what we like about ourselves. What are your strong points? Where do you seem to shine? What do your team members recognize as your strengths? Our energy soars when we're focusing on the positive instead of the negative. Several years ago, I was introduced to a book entitled "Now, Discover Your Strengths" by Marcus Buckingham & Donald Clifton, Ph. D. There is another book out called "Strengths Finder 2.0" by Tom Rath. Both of them give you the opportunity to fill out a Strengths Finder assessment that will provide you with details about your greatest strengths. When I received my assessment results, I sent them to 5 of my closest associates; I was truly excited! The assessment had me nailed and it suggested ways that I could use those strengths to my advantage. We all know that we should lean on our strengths but this assessment is laser-focused at helping you find out what those strengths are. So go find your strengths and then lean on them. When you watch sports it's so obvious, isn't it? If your favorite NFL quarterback likes to roll to his right to find an open receiver, you can bet he's going to have that play called several times during a game. Focus in and lean on your strengths and you'll be guaranteed more wins!
